     | SeasonsAll of the gamefish in Belize can be caught every month of the year. There are however, seasonal fluctuations of individual species.Big Snook are most abundant in the lagoons and river inlets, October through December, to coincide with annual mullet migrations. The same can be said for big Tarpon. On the flats, trophy Bonefish are most abundant from September through early December, however Permit are best pursued during the Fall months and again in early Summer. For big Cubera Snapper and HUGE Goliath Grouper?? Well, everyone knows that the full moons of April, May and June are the best! Socially Responsible HarvestingWe practice "catch and release" fishing as much as possible. Even so, during the course of fishing and handling, some fish will be killed. But we insure that NOTHING is WASTED.All species of fish are valuable sources of protein here in Belize. Therefore it is our policy that all fish retained or killed will become the property of Spiritwind Reef Resort, and will be used and/or freely distributed as food for the needy in our community.  The Fabled "Grand Slam"Far from the "Touristy" areas to the North; there is little fishing pressure here. Our Pristine Grass Flats are Thick with Shoals of BONEFISH. And you will soon see that these fish are Not Shy! It's not unusual for them to chase each other, competing for your lure. Because most of them have Never Seen A Lure! Even "not so well" presented Flies are eaten readily. And if you are not a Fly Fisherman... No Worries! These Hungry "Bones" will attack Jigs, Spoons, Jerk Baits... they have even been known to strike Top Water! If you are looking for Bonefish, you’ve come to the right place. TARPON are abundant on the Flats and in the Passes around these Coral Islands, all year long. It is not unusual to see large shoals of the "Silver Kings" lazily rolling in the morning sun. Most fish on the reef, run from 30 to 60 pounds; but 100 pound plus fish are not unusual... especially in the deeper water of the passes. Bright colored "Tarpon Flies" work well; as do Spoons, Jigs and a wide variety of other lures. But bring your "A" Game! Many tarpon are hooked, but relatively Few Are Landed! The most coveted Jewel of the "Triple Crown" is the shy and elusive PERMIT! And our Southern Belize Islands are universally accepted as the Best Place on Earth to catch them. Running from 10 to 40 (or more) pounds, these powerful gamesters test even the most seasoned angler. Even though Permit have been known to take a wide variety of Lures; a High-quality Fly in a Shrimp or Crab Pattern, or a Bonefish Jig of Pink or Natural Brown color, will give you the greatest chance of a strike.
