With (at least) 500 species of indigenous Birds, Belize is a Bird Watchers' dream! There are gaudy Scarlet Macaws, "Amazon" Parrots, Aztec Parakeets, Comical Toucans, as well as a spectacular congregation of lesser known species: Aricari, Emerald Toucanet, Violaceous Trogan, Crimson Flycatcher, and Blue-Crowned Mot Mots just to name a few. Your eyes will be dazzled by the hundreds of exotic Bird Species which illuminate our tropical skies.The unique geography of Maya Kingdom, located as it is in the Coastal Jungles of Belize, creates a wide variety of convergent species. Both Coastal and Upland Birds can often be found here. On any given day you may observe; Toucans, Parakeets, any of the 7 species of Parrots, Trogans, Yucatan Jays, Titayra, Oropendulas, sunshine bright Kiskadees, a variety of Hummingbirds, various species of Warblers, Orioles, Tanagers, Wrens PLUS Kingfishers, Hawks, Owls, and more. If you are very lucky you may even see our magnificent Jabiru Stork, or possibly an awesome Harpy Eagle. By all means, bring your Binoculars and "Life List"... you will need them! And then there is the living rainbow of Tropical Butterflies; spectacular Blue Morpho, Zebra Long-wing, Mourning Cloak, Orange Fritillary, Yellow Sulphur, Postman and many more. All of this without ever leaving the comfort of your veranda! Other animals you may observe from your front porch include: Coatimundi, Kinkajou, Four-eyed Possum, Tropical Porcupine, Agouti, Tayra, Ocelot, Otter Cat, and more. Remember, this is REAL JUNGLE! So don't be surprised if a sleek Puma or massive Jaguar shows up for evening Tea! |
